From rooftop fireworks to starlit soaks, the Rusty Parrot’s outdoor spaces offer a front-row seat to Jackson’s beauty. Whether you’re spotting hawks, sharing stories by the fire, or easing into morning yoga, there’s space here to spread out and stay a while.
On the Fourth of July in Jackson, the sky fills with color as fireworks burst and shimmer over Snow King Mountain. The warm summer night, usually still and almost impossibly quiet, lights up with reds, golds, and that unmistakable crackle. There are plenty of places to catch the show, but few match the view from the Rusty Parrot’s Perch. From above the quiet hum of town, this rooftop deck offers an unobstructed view of Snow King. On every other night, when the sky isn’t lit with fireworks, the Perch is a wonderfully peaceful place to stargaze under a wide, clear sky.
The Perch is one of several outdoor spaces at the Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa designed to bring guests a little closer to the natural world that surrounds and infuses Jackson. Whether you’re watching the town below, sipping a morning coffee, or just catching your breath, the Perch invites you to linger.
The Wildlife Observation Deck
A short walk from the Perch brings you to the wildlife observation deck. With views of East Gros Ventre Butte and a new spotting scope recently added to complement the provided binoculars, the deck is an ideal place to pause and take in the movement of the valley—a red-tailed hawk circling on a thermal, the slow shift of cloud shadows across the mountains, and even the occasional moose wandering through the stream bed. The longer you look, the more you notice.
The Spa Terrace
Just below, the spa terrace offers a different kind of retreat. Framed by the lodge itself, it’s the site of yoga classes every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 8 a.m. Guests gather in the early light, stretching gently into the day and preparing their bodies for the adventures ahead. The wooden deck beneath the mat is still cool, and the mountain air carries just a hint of alpine chill, even in July which provides a contrast to the radiant heat from above.
The Hot Tub
And when the strain of the day’s adventures starts to settle into your muscles, the courtyard’s hot tub awaits. Whether you’ve been out hiking, biking, or exploring the wonders of the surrounding parks, the pains of the day evaporate with a restorative soak. Evening is especially magical. The stars come out one by one, and the town begins to go quiet. A chill sneaks into the air, only to vanish in the warm steam coming off the water.
The Fire Pit
Nearby, the fire pit comes alive in the same hours. Flames flicker, casting long shadows and warming tired hands and feet. Guests gather here with drinks, the talk easy and unhurried, sharing stories of their days spent in the mountains or exploring town. There’s space here for strangers to become familiar, and for familiar faces to reconnect in the glow of the firelight.
All these spaces—the Perch, the wildlife deck, the spa terrace, the courtyard—are part of the fabric of the Rusty Parrot, offering room to breathe, connect, and recover in the presence of the great outdoors. Especially during the summer, when the days stretch long and the nights cool just enough to reach for a sweater, they’re some of the best seats in town.
