The First of its Kind: The History of the Body Sage Spa

Tucked away behind the facade of the Rusty Parrot Lodge, the Body Sage Spa in Jackson Hole has long been a cornerstone of the valley’s wellness culture. More than two decades before it was trendy, founder Heidi Harrison envisioned a spa that was rooted in health, healing, and connection to the natural world. In 1995, she brought that vision to life with the creation of Body Sage Spa, making it the first spa to open in Jackson.

The Body Sage Spa was one of the first businesses to see the value in the grounding nature of organic products and restorative holistic care. Long before “clean beauty” filled headlines, the Body Sage Spa was offering treatments using natural, earth-conscious products.

Rooted and Growing

Today, that same spirit infuses every treatment and interaction at Body Sage Spa, which has evolved enormously since those early days. Under the guidance of spa director Kimberly Acker, the spa continues to honor its roots while constantly adapting to meet the needs of modern guests. Kimberly brings a grounded, compassionate energy to the space, directing a team of skilled therapists who embody the warm, personal, and deeply rejuvenating treatment that guests and locals alike have come to expect.

The Spa is always seeking new ways to integrate wellness into the Rusty Parrot experience. Beginning June 4, hotel guests are invited to deepen their wellness journey with complimentary morning yoga at 8 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. These classes are led by an experienced instructor who tailors each session to the needs of attendees. Sign-up is required.

A Hidden Oasis in the Heart of Town

spa oasisThough it’s located just steps from downtown Jackson, the Body Sage Spa feels like a hidden oasis. Ample, easy parking is available just outside the Rusty Parrot, but guests coming in for a massage can also enjoy the convenience of complimentary valet service. From there, visitors pass through the main entrance to the hotel, which is equal parts rustic and chic. There’s a sense of calm in the air as you pass through the lodge and enter the spa itself.

One of the spa’s main attractions is the outdoor hot tub nestled beneath the open sky, with a quiet view of East Gros Ventre Butte. Whether you’ve come from a morning hike in Grand Teton National Park or are winding down after a long day of skiing, this warm, bubbling sanctuary is a balm for both body and spirit. Guests are invited to relax with a cup of delicious, locally-sourced loose leaf tea served with local honey sticks. Also available at the spa are a selection of “Delight Bites” and special chef-crafted treats, ranging from cookies to dark chocolate coconut bars.

For a truly intimate experience, locals and travelers alike are discovering the joy of pairing their spa visit with a meal at the Wild Sage, the Rusty Parrot’s beloved in-house restaurant. With a menu centered around local and seasonal flavors, breakfast or dinner at the Wild Sage feels like an extension of the spa experience—nourishing and deeply satisfying. Few things are better than ending a long day with a massage and a candlelit meal (or starting a day, for that matter).

Treatments with Purpose

Treatments at the Body Sage Spa are designed with care and intention, ranging from deep tissue massage and customized facials to reflexology, Thai massage, and signature rituals using live seaweed. Each session is tailored to your needs, whether you’re seeking deep physical relief or a return to inner balance.

For Father’s Day this year, the spa is extending a special offer. From June 9th to 16th, fathers can enjoy 30% off any service. It’s the perfect opportunity to treat the dads in your life (or yourself) to a well-deserved moment of relaxation.

What truly sets the Body Sage Spa apart is not just its offerings or its history. It’s the feeling you take with you when you leave: that you’ve been cared for in a way that is sincere and rare. In a town as vibrant and adventurous as Jackson, the Body Sage Spa offers something profoundly valuable—a pause. A chance to reconnect with yourself, with nature, and with the healing traditions that first brought wellness to this wild corner of Wyoming. Whether you’re a visitor passing through or a local seeking sanctuary, this spa is a place that welcomes you as you are and sends you back into the world a little lighter.
