There’s a flavor of American spirit that can only be found in the West. Independence Day comes to life beneath the Tetons with the voices of rodeo announcers echoing through the valley, concerts drawing crowds late into the night, and fireworks illuminating the mountain skyline long after sunset. This year, as the United States celebrates 250 years of independence, there may be no better place to celebrate the American spirit than Jackson, Wyoming.
Whether you’re planning a family getaway or a long holiday weekend with friends, the Fourth of July is one of the most memorable times to experience Jackson Hole.

The Fourth of July Parade in Downtown Jackson
By mid-morning on July 4th, downtown Jackson fills with families carrying folding chairs and coffee cups, children waving flags, and locals greeting neighbors along the route. Horses trot past historic storefronts. Floats celebrate local businesses and ranching culture. Veterans, musicians, rodeo royalty, and community groups all make their way through the heart of town beneath the antler arches of Town Square.
For guests of the Rusty Parrot, joining the experience is practically effortless. The lodge sits just blocks from downtown, allowing visitors to walk to the parade route without worrying about parking or navigating crowded streets. Afterward, guests can retreat to the calm of the property before returning downtown for shopping, dining, or afternoon adventures.

Rodeo Nights and Cowboy Traditions
Summer in Jackson is inseparable from the rodeo. Held on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays throughout the season, the Jackson Hole Rodeo remains one of the town’s most iconic experiences. Fourth of July week is among the busiest times to attend the rodeo, and tickets often sell out well in advance as visitors flock to see one of the West’s most enduring traditions firsthand. Be sure to get your tickets early!
In addition to the rodeo, guests can explore horseback riding excursions, guided adventures, scenic outings, and curated local recommendations that bring the spirit of Wyoming to life beyond downtown.

Fireworks Over Snow King Mountain
The Fourth of July fireworks display launched from Snow King Mountain transforms the night sky above Jackson into a panorama of color and light.
While many gather downtown to watch the display, guests of the Rusty Parrot can enjoy one of the best vantage points in Jackson: The Perch. With elevated views overlooking town, the space offers a quieter atmosphere to take in the celebration while enjoying cocktails, conversation, and cool mountain air.
Live Music Beneath the Tetons
Red, White & Tunes takes over Teton Village from July 3rd through 5th with three nights of free headliner concerts at the base of the mountains. Steely Dead brings their Grateful Dead–meets–Steely Dan fusion on the 3rd, the Honey Island Swamp Band follows on the 4th with New Orleans roots and a high-energy stage presence rooted in blues, soul, and Americana, and B-Side Players close out the weekend on the 5th with a genre-crossing sound that draws from Cuban, Brazilian, and Mexican rhythms layered over funk and rock.
For those who prefer their Independence Day with a more orchestral sensibility, the Grand Teton Music Festival presents its annual “Patriotic Pops” concert on the evening of July 4th at the Center for the Arts. A free Family Jam opens the festival on the 3rd.

The National Parks
Jackson Hole also offers a reminder of another vital part of the American story: the preservation of the West itself. 154 years ago, Yellowstone was established as America’s first national park, helping shape a national identity tied not only to independence, but to wild landscapes, conservation, and exploration. Several decades later, Grand Teton National Park joined the growing list of protected natural areas, and Jackson has been the gateway ever since.
For families traveling together or groups gathering for the holiday, a few extra days will allow time to experience more than just the festivities themselves. Spend a day exploring Grand Teton, rafting the Snake River, visiting Yellowstone, or finding other ways to appreciate the pristine landscapes that have become emblematic of this nation.
