Grand Teton National Park
The south boundary of Grand Teton National Park is about five minutes from The Rusty Parrot. In 1926, the John D. Rockefeller Jr. family visited Jackson Hole. Mr. Rockefeller was struck with the beauty of the area and distressed with the commercialization that was taking place. That year he began purchasing property with the intention of donating it to the National Park Service. The last donation, the 1106 acre Laurence S. Rockefeller Preserve, was made in 2008. Now encompassing over 96,000 acres, the park attracts nearly 3 million visitors each year.
Some of the favorite summer activities in the park are wildlife viewing, hiking, climbing, boating and biking. In the winter the solace of cross country skiing or snow shoeing gain you access into the solitude of a vast wilderness at rest. The pristine snow and undisturbed quiet will create memories that will never fade.
Yellowstone National Park
Only 60 miles from the Rusty Parrot, Yellowstone National Park offers spectacular natural scenery and unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing. This legendary preserve has been visited and inhabited for about 11,000 years. Its history with man reaches back to the time when the glaciers were receding after the last ice age. In 1872, an act of congess designated Yellowstone the world's first national park. Its 2.2 million acres are home to active geysers, thermal pools, calderas, countless species of flora and fauna, endangered wildlife, 4 major lakes and 10 major rivers and creeks.
