Snowshoeing and dog sledding are two good reasons to take a day or two to enjoy new adventures. How many of your friends and family can say they’ve flown through groves of aspen trees on a sled being pulled by a pack of strong and well-trained dogs? How many can say they’ve spent a few peaceful hours exploring the wonders of winter in the Grand Teton National Park and surrounding area?

In the modern world, we just don’t get many chances to stop and try something new. If you come to Jackson Hole for the skiing, consider embracing an experience that you may well not have the opportunity to try again – or at least, not until you come back for more!

The dog sled tours have a wide range of options, from quick excursions to multiple night marathons, so you can choose a package that will fit around your itinerary. Local outfitters take care of all of the equipment and ensure that the trips are fun and safe for everyone involved. Imagine the thrill of holding the reins and feeling the power of your team as you glide through the Grand Teton or Wind River mountains.

If you prefer your thrills on a smaller scale, how about a quiet snowshoe expedition through an undisturbed paradise, or a guided tour through the secret nooks and crannies of the regional mountain ranges or Yellowstone National Park?

teepee.jpgYou can also experience a tour to a Winter Teepee Camp on the banks of the Snake River. The journey takes you through a cottonwood forest that is home to Elk, Moose and Deer. Follow tracks in the snow and occasionally catch a glimpse of the animal that is making them.

A short hike through the forest brings you to the banks of the Snake River and spectacular views of the Teton Range. See Bald Eagles and a wide array of waterfowl. The Trumpeter Swan is a winter resident of the river bottom and you can often hear and see this magnificent bird. River Otter and Coyote tracks are seen at the river’s edge and occasional sightings are a treat.

The destination of the hike is a delightfully warm Teepee. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea await you upon arrival. A hot lunch of homemade soup and grilled sandwiches complete the day. Moonlight and evening trips feature hors’ doeurves, steak or salmon entree and dessert. The hike out under the light of the winter sky is what vacation memories are made of.
