Jackson Hole Rodeo

rodeo.jpg

No trip to the Wild West would be complete without experiencing the excitement of a genuine western rodeo. Every Wednesday and Saturday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Jackson Hole, Wyoming rodeos feature bucking broncos, rodeo clowns, calf roping and children’s events; fun for all ages! Look below for descriptions of the various exciting rodeo events.

Bull Riding
Bull riding is the most dangerous event in the rodeo. During the event a cowboy attempts to ride a lunging, running, ducking and diving 2500 pound bull for 8 seconds using only his legs, balance and a short length of rope!

Bareback and Saddle Bronc Riding
Leaping, bucking, and kicking, bronc riding is nothing short of hair-rising. Cowboys are judged on 8 seconds of riding, spurring, and technique and scored accordingly. The rider can be disqualified for touching the horse or himself with his freehand, not spurring correctly, or loosing a stirrup. Bronc riding skill goes far beyond simply staying on the explosion of astounding horse power.

Calf Roping
Horse and rider are a team in this event. First, calf is released from a pen, followed by horse and rider sprinting from the holding area. Once the contestant is close enough, he or she ropes the calf. After the calf is roped, the rider tears off his horse (which is keeping the rope taunt so the calf can’t get up) and ties its legs together.

This event is for the ladies. Participants run a clover-leaf pattern around three barrels competing for the best time.
