Jackson Hole Art Galleries

The beauty of Jackson Hole, Wyoming has enticed so many independent artists and galleries that it has earned the moniker, “Art Center of the Rockies”. Over the past few years, it has grown so much that it’s now mentioned alongside Scottsdale and Sante Fe by art lovers, and has become a destination in its own right. The Fall Arts Festival, created in 1984, attracts thousands of visitors every September.

Historically, the artistic leanings of the area began with the arrival of Thomas Moran in the late 1800’s. His paintings of the surrounding regions were used as evidence of the brilliance of Yellowstone Park when President Grant signed a law protecting it for future generations. It was the spectacular scenery that attracted Moran, of course, for no part of Wyoming was yet famed for its art culture….

These days, Jackson is the home to over thirty art galleries; some specializing in paintings, some in sculpture, some in mediums unique to the Western Rockies. It would literally take days to see them all, but you’d leave satisfied that you’ve seen a variety of galleries unique within such a small area. And, of course, you have the Teton Mountains as a backdrop that features a brilliant display of nature’s art at its finest.
